Electric Cars

Since the Nissan Leaf was introduced in 2010, the electric car has been growing in popularity due to its low-carbon credentials and potentially economical running costs.  The plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) is also popular as it offers many of the benefits of an electric car but does not have the same range and charging limitations.   A plug-in hybrid vehicle has an electric battery motor combined with a petrol or diesel engine.  It is therefore not as environmentally acceptable as a purely electric vehicle but it does provide a practical alternative when an electric vehicle is not suitable.

As the technologies and the vehicles are constantly changing, websites like the one provided by Next Green Car Limited can provide lots of useful information, for example, at the end of August 2020, there were thought to be over 142,000 pure-electric vehicles in the UK.

Electric plug-in vehicles need special charging points to recharge their batteries.
